Oxford Student Society
Role: President & Strategic Communications Lead
The Oxford University Africa Society is one of the University of Oxford’s largest and most influential student societies, representing and supporting over 300 African students across the university.
As President and Strategic Communications Lead, I provided end-to-end strategic and operational leadership, overseeing governance, programming, partnerships, fundraising, and communications. My role blended vision-setting with hands-on project management, ensuring that large-scale initiatives were delivered on time, on budget, and at institutional level.
I led fundraising and sponsorship efforts that raised over £85,000, securing partnerships with corporations, foundations, and university stakeholders to support society programming and the co-convened Oxford Africa Conference. Under my leadership, I expanded the conference to record attendance, strengthened institutional partnerships with the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and the Africa Oxford Initiative, and positioned the event as a flagship platform for dialogue, policy engagement, and professional networking.
I also launched the society’s first Africa Society Magazine, established its first alumni engagement platform, and built long-term stakeholder communication systems to strengthen continuity beyond my tenure. Through strategic outreach and communications planning, I increased participation across events and programs, deepened member engagement, and strengthened the society’s long-term visibility and institutional footprint.
Key contributions included managing cross-functional teams, coordinating multi-stakeholder projects, overseeing budgets and sponsorship deliverables, leading marketing and communications strategy, and designing systems to support long-term organizational sustainability.
Through disciplined execution and strategic leadership, I transformed the society’s operations, scale, and public profile — delivering impact that extended well beyond a single academic year.
