Reliance Foundation
Development & Philanthropy Organization
Role: Development Communications Consultant
-
Reliance Foundation is India’s largest philanthropic foundation, leading large-scale social impact initiatives across education, health, sports development, rural livelihoods, and community development.
I spent three months in India as a Communications Intern within the Foundation’s communications department, working closely with cross-functional teams to strengthen donor-facing storytelling, digital communications, and institutional brand presence during a key phase of organizational growth.
Rather than operating as a purely administrative intern, I was embedded within the communications team and contributed directly to high-impact projects, including a major website revamp, donor communications, and impact storytelling initiatives.
-
During my internship, Reliance Foundation was undergoing a communications refresh to better reflect the scale, impact, and professionalism of its work.
Key challenges included:
An outdated website that no longer reflected the Foundation’s maturity and program breadth
Web content that lacked clarity, narrative flow, and accessibility for international audiences
Donor materials that needed stronger storytelling and visual consistency
Dense program information that required clearer, more engaging presentation
A growing need to communicate credibility, transparency, and long-term vision to funders and partners
The challenge wasn’t about the quality of the Foundation’s work on the ground—it was about how that work was being communicated to a global donor and stakeholder audience.
-
Working collaboratively with the communications and program teams, we developed a content and communications strategy to modernize the Foundation’s digital and donor-facing presence.
Together, we:
Clarified key narrative themes around impact, sustainability, and community outcomes
Reviewed existing website content to identify what should be retained, refined, or rewritten
Designed a clearer storytelling structure for the revamped website
Aligned tone of voice to reflect professionalism, trust, and accessibility
Defined content frameworks for donor communications and digital materials
Identified priority audiences, including international donors, institutional partners, and community stakeholders
The strategy centered on making impact visible and understandable while preserving institutional credibility and donor confidence.
-
I translated our shared strategy into a cohesive set of donor-facing and digital communications assets, working closely with the Reliance Foundation team throughout my internship.
This included:
Copywriting and editing website content as part of a major website revamp
Restructuring program pages to improve clarity, narrative flow, and user experience
Producing a professionally structured annual report
Designing digital brochures for donor and partner engagement
Writing and refining donor communications and impact narratives
Applying consistent branding and visual storytelling principles
Structuring dense program information into accessible, human-centered narratives
Managing review and feedback cycles to align with leadership priorities
Supporting cross-functional collaboration between communications, design, and program teams
Throughout the process, I acted as a strategic partner and communications integrator—facilitating feedback, managing iterations, and ensuring that every asset reflected both the Foundation’s impact work and its long-term institutional goals.
-
The communications refresh strengthened Reliance Foundation’s clarity, credibility, and donor engagement across digital and institutional touchpoints.
Key outcomes included:
A revamped website with clearer, more accessible content
Improved storytelling around program outcomes and community impact
Stronger brand consistency across digital and donor-facing materials
A polished annual report for donor and stakeholder communications
Professionally designed digital brochures to support fundraising and partnerships
Most importantly, the Foundation walked away with not just new documents, but a communications foundation that could support long-term fundraising, partnerships, and institutional growth.
